LIVE ORIGINAL MUSIC ARCHIVE 1987

Only a matter of days after it formed on 22nd November 1987, SCALA started running a showcase for original music. The first SCALA performance was at Club Foote in Blyth Street (off Adelaide's notorious Hindley Street) on Wednesday, 2nd December 1987. It's interesting that the first performance was on a Wednesday evening. From 1989 our main showcase was on Wednesdays for many years. Back in 1987, though, it was a one-off. The following week we shifted to Tuesday evenings - difficult because of competition with cut price cinema. Even so, we managed to get some audience coming along and, gradually, the enthusiasm built as our reputation spread by word of mouth.

Notice that in the early weeks we had a smallish roster of artists and some acts were able to play quite often.
