SCALA's FOOM 2010 song competition

News Release

SCALA (Songwriters, Composers And Lyricists Association) has announced its seventeenth Festival of Original Music (FOOM) song competition. SCALA commenced FOOM in 1994 with the winning songs each year recorded for CD distribution. Unsigned songwriters can enter in Live Performance, Demo, Instrumental and Studio categories to win a chance to appear on SCALA's next CD. There's also a section for Lyricists with the winning lyricist receiving a cash prize.

Winning songs from Live and Demo sections are re-recorded for CD release, each recording worth approximately $700 of sponsors' time. Sponsoring studios include Chapel Lane (Hindmarsh), QEM (Norwood), Red Brick Music (Seacombe Heights), Fishshop (Rosewater) and RDMS (Wynn Vale) and Disk-Edits (mastering, Bowden). The Studio Section this year has also been boosted with a $500 goods prize donated by The Electric Room pro audio online shop.

SCALA has now released eighteen albums of (mainly) local original music containing winning songs from FOOM and other competitions organised by SCALA. The most recent album, "SCALA Another Lesson In Love", is also available as a commercial download.

FOOM is open to any unsigned songwriter, composer or lyricist anywhere in the world. In previous years, entries have been received from the USA, UK, New Zealand, Hong Kong and a number of European countries as well as all states and territories in Australia.

Entries for FOOM 2010 are available from SCALA, PO Box 980, Blackwood SA 5051, Tel 8278 8339 or online (www.scala.org.au/comfoom.htm). Payments can also be made online.
