SCALA Over The Edge CD

SCALA releases its latest CD entitled SCALA Over The Edge on Saturday 19th November 2005. The launch will take place at The Joiners Arms Hotel, Manton Street, Hindmarsh (SCALA's weekly venue) starting at 9pm.

SCALA Over The Edge contains winning songs from SCALA's annual Festival of Original Music (FOOM) Song Competition for 2003 and 2004 with 16 award winning songs. There are also three bonus tracks extending the album to almost 77 minutes.

SCALA Over The Edge is SCALA's tenth CD and its sixteenth album of original music since 1990. Artists on the album include Jane-Marie Evans, The Standard Deviations, The Fortunate Sons, Blame Jayne, wordfly (Darwin based band), Adrian Miller, Manyoush, UK based Cal Williams Jr, among others. SCALA's albums since 1990 have enabled the professional recording and release of 261 new songs, 178 of them on CD and all but 8 songs written by songwriters/composers in or from Australia.

Headline acts from the CD who will be appearing at the launch of SCALA Over The Edge are David Robinson, Jane-Marie Evans and the band, Blame Jayne. Other artists from the CD will also be performing on the night.

FOOM 2005 Live Final and Full Results

Winners in the Live Final of SCALA's Festival of Original Music Song Competition 2005 Live Section were:
  • Miranda Bradley That Moment
  • Katie Greenhalf I Thought I Was A Hero
  • Sue Pratten Holding On
  • Gary Stiliano & Adrian Miller When I'm Near You
These songs will be recorded for the 2006 SCALA CD along with winning songs from the demo sections. Judges in the final were songwriter Jacqy Phillips and editor of Rip It Up Magazine Robert Dunstan.

Winner of the "People's Choice" Award (based on audience votes) was Miranda Bradley (song: That Moment) who won an extra 8 hours recording time (sponsored by Darren Zaza and Ross Reade from DNA Live Sound and Pigs In Space Studio)

FOOM 2005 Live Heat Four

Winners in the final heat of SCALA's Festival of Original Music Song Competition 2005 Live Section were:

These songs will go into the Live Final on 1st September. Heat Four judges were award winning songwriter Kathy Gibbings and songwriter and music writer Michael Coghlan.

Winner of the "People's Choice" Award (based on audience votes) was Cindy MacDonald (song: Other Plans) who won a dinner for 2 at The Joiners Arms (sponsored by Darren Zaza from DNA Live Sound/Pigs In Space Studio and The Joiners Arms)

FOOM 2005 Live Heat Three

Winners in the third heat of SCALA's Festival of Original Music Song Competition 2005 Live Section were:

  • Katie Greenhalf I Thought I Was A Hero
These songs will go into the Live Final on 1st September. Heat Three judges were award winning poet and lyricist Jude Aquilina and Radio Adelaide presenter and music critic Ewart Shaw.

Winners of the "People's Choice" Award (based on audience votes) were Nick Longford and Casey Finlay (Krusader Rabbit) (song: Lure) who win a dinner for 2 at The Joiners Arms (sponsored by Darren Zaza from DNA Live Sound/Pigs In Space Studio and The Joiners Arms)

Songwriter's Forum & Showcase

The second Stinky Creek Folk & Music Festival, North Shields (11km north of Port Lincoln), Eyre Peninsula, will include a Songwriter's Forum & Showcase, on Sunday 15th May, 11am at the Parnkalla Lion's Hostel. The Festival runs from 13th to 16th May. For further details email .
