    Cate Rogers and Rick Daniels

    Cate and Rick

Cate Rogers and Rick Daniels were introduced to each other by a mutual musical colleague in 2003 and have been songwriting together off and on since then, most seriously in the last couple of years.

Cate comes to songwriting through a love of performing (local theatre and bands) and words (majoring in English at uni and writing sketch comedy, poetry and short stories). Rick is a multi-instrumentalist who has helmed many a band and is currently fronting original rock outfit Whiskey Mojo.

While both have written both alone and in collaboration with others before, together they have found complementing styles and an ease of friendship and creativity has made for a fruitful pairing and have been slowly amassing a diverse range of material, their core roots/folk feel spiced with touches of funk, jazz and some low-down dirty blues.

In 2006 they were finalists in the National Songwriting Contest with their song “Life Goes On” whilst another composition “Come On Baby”, recorded by Rick’s band Whiskey Mojo, is getting international airplay through indie and blues radio stations in the USA, Canada, France, Spain and Australia. “Come On Baby” also appears on the “Highway Blues Volume 1” compilation CD released by LA-based 272 Records.

In 2009 they were finalists in SCALA’s Festival of Live Music (and came second in the audience vote at The Gov!) with their song “High” and were winners in the concurrently-run demo competition for their song “Home”, which they have recently enjoyed recording for SCALA’s next compilation CD with SCALA sponsor, sound engineer Anthony Stewart.

Other creative commitments have kept them from performing live more than a handful of times together up until recently but in 2010 they are looking forward to embracing the acoustic music scene as well as continuing to further their songwriting partnership.

    Robert Childs

    Robert Childs

Wrote his first song about 1959. Has written songs, off and on, ever since. Helped found SCALA in 1987. Robert has produced many of SCALA's albums and he has written many articles about songwriting matters.

He's now an occasional solo performer but during the nineties was surprised that other people, forming Robert Childs Elastic Band, wanted to play his songs. Due mainly to the enthusiasm of the band and a few other supporters he released the CD Revenge (with the Elastic Band) in 1994.

Robert and his wife Jane were each awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in June 2004 "For service to music as mentors and promoters of emerging composers and performers through the Songwriters, Composers And Lyricists Association (SCALA)".

Robert released a 5 song solo acoustic limited edition CD, Contagion in November 2007. One album a century is probably enough!
