Vicki Bennett Rob And Jane (Vicki Bennett)
In 2004 SCALA members were delighted to learn that Robert Childs and Jane Childs had each been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for "service to music as mentors and promoters of emerging composers and performers through the Songwriters, Composers And Lyricists Association (SCALA)". Anyone who has witnessed Jane and Robert's endless unpaid hours and efforts for the good of songwriters can attest that this award was utterly deserved. It seemed fitting that this event should be marked by the composition of at least one new original song, and this irreverent ditty was hastily written and then subsequently performed twice at the Joiners Arms in mid-2004. The raucous enthusiasm of the singalong crowd on both nights was further testament to the esteem in which Jane and Robert are held by us all!
It was suggested by some SCALA members that the song should perhaps find a permanent home on a SCALA CD, as an ongoing tribute to this special moment in SCALA's history. The SCALA board supported its inclusion despite the humble protestations of SCALA President Robert and First Lady Jane. Hope you enjoy it!
