Danny Stevens Gotta Stop Beatin' My Head Against This Wall (Danny Stevens)
Danny StevensDanny Stevens has been around the Adelaide music scene for many years. Moving on from the usual garage band beginnings, he picked up some formal training and went on to play in a variety of bands including the popular soul/R&B outfits East End and The Shakers. In the last few years Danny has progressively shifted his emphasis from live performance to writing. Gotta Stop Beatin' My Head Against This Wall won the Demo Tape section of SCALA's third Festival Of Original Music (FOOM) Song Competition 1996.

Barking AntsFor the past four years Barking Ants have thrived on playing music live, be it their original music, or covers, not taking things too seriously; life's too short. Passion won the Mount Pleasant (Torrens Valley) Football Club Song Competition 1996.

Janie Walker Gerard FitzgeraldA Framed Kiss was Janie Walker’s, first attempt at lyricwriting. It was written in collaboration with jinglewriter, Gerard Fitzgerald. Janie is currently living in her homeland, New Zealand, pursuing creative writing and Gerard is now working at Song Zu, Singapore. A Framed Kiss won the Master Tape section of SCALA's third Festival Of Original Music (FOOM) Song Competition 1996.

Ironhorse Blackman's Ballad ( Lyrics by David Stone/Music by David Stone, Shaun Pilkinton, John Yacka, Kevin Perks)Ironhorse
Ironhorse formed in 1980 and toured almost continuously for the next 6 years. They played at most of Australia’s major venues and supported artists like Deep Purple and BB King, Joe Walsh, Johnny Winter, The Fabulous Thunderbirds and Canned Heat and many of the top Australian acts. They released the album Lost Weekend in 1986 before basing themselves in Sydney and continued touring. They subsequently changed their band name and personnel and released the Cosmic Desert self titled CD in 1992. The original members of the band now get together when necessary (as Ironhorse) to support artists like BB King. Their real claim to fame is that between 1984 and 1987 they created bar taking records at two of Australia’s most popular venues!

Vicki and Ronni Gossett are singer/songwriters who happen to be sisters. They were born and raised in L.A., California and moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1982 to pursue a songwriting career. Vicki plays electric guitar and Ronni plays electric bass while they both enjoy writing all styles of music, with strong melodies and production being a major focus to complete their unique Alternative Pop sound

Tin and Timbre In A Letter (Jack Robins)Graeme Burdett and Jack Robins
Jack Robins has written, played guitar and sung for seminal 1980’s Adelaide band the Units, London bands The Pleasure District, The Sleepwalkers and the Last Priests and the -ists (in Adelaide, writing their critically well received mini-LP Rose). His material also featured in his solo acoustic work in the UK and Adelaide, including two appearences at the Cambridge Folk Festival. He currently writes and plays with acoustic duo and soon-to-be band Tin & Timbre, with whom he is (gradually!) recording their debut CD.

Bindi Blacher’s melodic style and poetic lyrics coupled with gutsy on-stage style make her one of the leading artists in the contemporary music scene! Her experience as a guitarist, songwriter and vocalist span s the last decade. Bindi is also a trained actor, a voice and drama teacher and she has played with the bands Rosehip Sunday (supporting Things of Stone and Wood and Margaret Ulrich), My Life As An Artichoke, Headonastick and Compost Kids.

John Denney Before Sunrise (John Denney)John Denney
John Denney is an angst-filled, passionate performer / singer songwriter who has been performing in bands and as a solo performer in Adelaide for the past 10 years. His first major band was Blue Harmony, which later went on to become Breathe. Before Sunrise (which was co winner of the Live Section of the 1996 SCALA Festival of Original Music Song Competition) is about a German girl John met whilst busking at the 1996 Adelaide Fringe Festival.

Andrea Dawson and The Gypsies Friends (Patrick Reagan) Andrea Dawson and The Gypsies
March 1994 saw the birth of Andrea Dawson and the Gypsies. Over the next 3 years there was much original material written by different personnel. Nigel Walters became a member in March 97 and Ironhorse drummer, John Yacka, became actively involved about the same time.

Jeb Cardwell Small Change (Jeb Cardwell)Jeb Cardwell
Jeb Cardwell started performing solo then joined a jazz/blues outfit before forming a trio with his sister, vocalist Abbie Cardwell and bass player Yuri Banens called Blue Jay for which he is the principal songwriter. Blue Jay were a big hit at the 1996 Victor Harbor Folk Festival and they released their self titled debut CD in 1997. Small Change co-won the 1996 SCALA Festival of Original Music (FOOM) Song Competition (Live Section).

Steve Ashley was born in Liverpool, England and his musical influences come from that region of the world. His songs have appeared on each SCALA CD Collection to date. Stories Between Us appeared on the SCALA Big And Strong in 1995 and Extremes on SCALA Tell The World in 1996.

DogWater Falling Down (David Robinson)David Robinson
David Robinson spends too much time running, jumping and standing still, and not enough time writing and playing music. He expects that things will calm down by the time he is eighty.

DogWater formed in 1995, firstly as a three piece, later expanding to the four piece line-up featured on this CD. Concentrating on studio recording, DogWater will release a mini-album before the end of 1997.

Creekwater I'm A Union Man (Chris Henderson)Chris Henderson
Chris Henderson began writing songs as a teenager and in the mid seventies two of his songs reached the top 5% of the American Song Festival. He then formed an all original rock band for which he wrote the material. In the 1980s he wrote the script and songs for a school musical Dezzy Ripply and the band formed for this brought rock to Yorke Peninsula. Chris has served on SCALA’s Board of management and has won three awards in the Songwriters Event. Graveyard Country Towns won the Songwriters Event 1995 B Sharp Award and appears on the SCALA Tell The World CD. I’m A Union Man won the 1996 Working Life Section.

The Outskirts Accolades (vicki bennett)vicki bennett
vicki bennett (she prefers the lower case spelling) has just returned to Adelaide following eight years living and working in outback Australia. Accolades was written for the late Rob Riley, an Aboriginal activist whose passion for justice and reconciliation was an inspiration to so many Australians.

Colcannon Were You There (John Campbell Munro)John Munro
John Munro was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1947 and came to Australia at the age of 18. He was a founder member of Country Express and of Colcannon and he has worked since 1980 as accompanist to Eric Bogle with whom he has toured Canada, the USA and the UK four times, Europe three times, Bermuda and New Zealand.

John's recording credits include 8 albums with Eric, four with Country Express, three with Colcannon, three with Gordon Mcintyre and Kate Delaney, two with Mike Quarmby and one with Margaret Christl (Canada), Mary-Jane Field (Sydney), Irene Petrie and Denis and Lynne Tracey as well as countless guest appearances. His experience extends to production as well as performing.

John has won two Celtic Music Club Awards for Guitar and one for Mandolin, two Folk Federation awards and two SAMIA awards with Colcannon - the latter being for "Most Outstanding Contribution to Folk Music". He has also won the Songwriters Event in 1990 (For The Little Slavies) and again in 1996 with Were You There.

Feel so... began in 1993 as a duet with long-time songwriter and SCALA member Caroline Perks and newcomer Catherine Blanch. Caroline, who comes from a musical family, has been playing the guitar since Year 8 and wrote her first song at the age of 17. At 25, Catherine learned to play open chords on the guitar and her first song was born. Feel so... focus on harmonies and lyrics. In 1994, Peter Beeby joined the band, bringing with him his amazing keyboard talents and a new depth to their music. This Game received an honourable mention at the SCALA Festival Of Original Music (FOOM) 1996 Live Section Final.
