Cavan Te Street Lights (Cavan Te)
Cavan Te Cavan Te is an exciting young songwriter whose Irish/Maori ancestry ensures a rich musical heritage. He is currently preparing a CD of his live material. Streetlights jointly won the SCALA Festival of Original Music Song Competition (FOOM) 1995 Live Section (Judges: Jane Intini and Martin Kubitsky).

Susie Keynes Washaway (Susie Keynes)
Susie Keynes Susie Keynes is a raw and honest songwriter/performer who has been writing songs since she was 7 or 8 - the last few years a very generous if not inspiring time. She is a founding member of the all female group Fruit which won a SAMI Award in 1996 for Most Outstanding Release. Washaway jointly won the SCALA Festival of Original Music Song Competition (FOOM) 1995 Live Section (Judges: Jane Intini and Martin Kubitsky).

George Arab I Feel Love (George Arab)
George Arab George Arab started to play drums and percussion at the age of three and began performing on stage at the age of 9. He played pubs, clubs and concerts and then began to write originals. He taught himself a little piano and keyboards and started to sing. He now has over 170 songs after 10 years of playing in rock bands and now solo. He's also written jingles and does session work in studios. I Feel Love won the SCALA Festival of Original Music Song Competition (FOOM) 1995 Master Tape Section (Judges: Ann Boakes and David Jarrett).

Fruit Been There, Done That (Miranda Bradley) Fruit
Miranda Bradley began performing in 1993 with "Kai’s Dilemma". In 1995, after recording their five track tape Ruthless, "Kai’s Dilemma" disbanded, making way for Miranda to pursue an exciting musical future with "Fruit" (which released its debut self-titled CD in May 1996). Fruit won a SAMI Award in 1996 for Most Outstanding Release. Been There, Done That jointly won the SCALA Festival of Original Music Song Competition (FOOM) 1995 Live Section (Judges: Jane Intini and Martin Kubitsky).

Ralph Schmidt Roboman (Ralph Schmidt) Ralph Schmidt
Between 1979 and 1982 Ralph Schmidt performed with the German band Interzone which released three albums on Warners. He also did theatre work as a musician for 10 years. He moved to England for two years doing session work mainly with Joe Strummer and Tynan Dogg before coming to Australia and playing in Jam The Boogie (an r’n’b band). Roboman won the Songwriters Event 1995 Working Life Section (Judges: Judy Small, Eric Erickson and Rob Woodard).

Breathe Three more than 202 (Sam Lohs) Sam and Adam
Sam Lohs and Adam Budgen met in 1992 and have been performing together as Breathe for 3 years. Both are involved in other projects such as Fruit (a six piece ensemble), Sam as guitarist/vocalist and Adam as their sound engineer. Three more than 202 jointly won the SCALA Festival of Original Music Song Competition (FOOM) 1995 Live Section (Judges: Jane Intini and Martin Kubitsky). The song was an inspiration taken from a trip to Melbourne in late April 1995.

Ian McDowall Charlie Was A Rover(Ian McDowall) Ian McDowall
Ian McDowall performed professionally in the north of England from 1960 to 1968 and appeared on various television radio shows. He also worked in France, Germany and the East Coast of the United States and in the early seventies he appeared on television in Adelaide. He was a founding member and regular performer of the Hills Folk club in the early 1980s. He is currently working on a CD of his original music. Charlie Was A Rover won the Songwriters Event 1995 Open Section (Judges: Judy Small, Eric Erickson and Rob Woodard).

Dez Wade Hymns of our Time (Dez Wade) Dez Wade
Irish-born Dez Wade has lived in Australia for almost twenty years, a large part of which time he has spent writing songs and playing music. This one is an attempt to convey a sense of urgency about the state of the world. It has been described as "exuberant pessimism". Hymns of our Time won the SCALA Festival of Original Music Song Competition (FOOM) 1995 Demo Tape Section (Judges: Julia Lester and Terry MacDonald).

Vis a Vis Graveyard Country Towns (Chris Henderson) Chris Henderson
Chris Henderson began writing songs as a teenager and in the mid seventies two of his songs reached the top 5% of the American Song Festival. He then formed an all original rock band for which he wrote the material. In the 1980s he wrote the script and songs for a school musical Dezzy Ripply and the band formed for this brought rock to Yorke Peninsula. Chris has served on SCALA’s Board of management and has won three awards in the Songwriters Event. Graveyard Country Towns won the Songwriters Event 1995 B Sharp Award (Judges: Judy Small, Eric Erickson and Rob Woodard).

Stephen McKenzie Feel Free (instrumental version) (Stephen McKenzie) Stephen McKenzie
Stephen McKenzie was one of the original members of the Bedridden which came to prominence in SA in the 1988 Songwriters Event. The Bedridden subsequently recorded two CDs (Stephen appears on the first) and he went on to form the band Stinky Textas. He won the Songwriters Event Open Section in 1994 with the song Carry Their Light (available on the SCALA Big And Strong CD). Feel free won the SCALA Festival of Original Music Song Competition (FOOM) 1995 Master Tape (Instrumental) Section (Judges: Robyn Habel and Mike Kenny).

Polly Xeni Human Nature (Nick Love) Polly Xeni
Polly is an Australian born Australian/Greek singer who made her first public appearance in 1979. She won first prize in a Song Festival in 1983 and released her debut CD, Thalassa, in 1993.

Garth Dutton Goyder's Line (Garth Dutton) Garth Dutton
Garth Dutton was born in Cheshire, England and came out to Australia as an eight year old child. He originally was into folk in the early 1970's and began writing some of his own songs at that time. He put out an LP called Sea and Highway in 1980. His career as a songwriter lapsed for some years in the 1980s but he gained renewed interest in songwriting after becoming an active member of SCALA in 1991. For a while he had a band called Roadside which played mostly folk rock, and now does solo work. He became interested in writing Australiana after taking out Australian citizenship.

Brenton Edgecombe Seashores (Brenton Edgecombe) Brenton Edgecombe
Brenton Edgecombe is a freelance musician, based and mainly working in Adelaide. Although he is mostly engaged as a classical violinist, Brenton also loves writing and performing his own songs.

The A C Syndicate Perspective (Andrew Cooper and Rob Thompson) Andrew Cooper
Andrew Cooper has been writing for 17 years. His lyrics are mostly uplifting/motivating/stories of life situations. He has been described as a "Wordsmith" & also writes for specific occasions . The music of Rob Thompson captures "Fonkin’ da Groove" & Soul, with the flexibility to adapt to a wide range of feels as required. Tony Minniecon & Amanda Thompson are the feature vocalists and are members of the band Big Brother along with Rob Thompson.

Trina and David Howlett Moonshine (Trina and David Howlett) David and Trina Howlett
David Howlett began playing guitar at the age of 18. His first influences were jazz and rock. He has played in Adelaide bands and duos adding his own tasty style to them. Trina Howlett has been singing since a tot and she went professional at 17 singing in bands and duos and in the recording field. She has performed live on TV several times and has been in many amateur musicals.

DogWater You Don't Like That (David Robinson) David Robinson
DogWater play original compositions, with the odd cover thrown in for good measure. David Robinson was born in Derby, England. He has been singing and playing guitars in Adelaide bands for years. He has (so far) written all of DogWater's original numbers. He is influenced by just about everyone and everything, especially The Beatles. This is the first time he has been released on CD.

Steve Ashley Extremes (Steve Ashley) Steve Ashley
Born in Liverpool with a number of influences from that region of the world, Steve Ashley won 2nd prize in the 1992 Songwriters Event. He released a back catalogue of his material entitled Politics of the Heart in 1993 and his song Stories Between Us appeared on the SCALA Big And Strong CD Collection in 1995.
